Nach sechs Monaten City Plaza in Athen berichten UnterstützerInnen und ehemalige BewohnerInnen auf Veranstaltungen in Deutschland und der Schweiz von ihren Erfahrungen.

Das City Plaza liegt mitten in der Innenstadt von Athen, im April 2016 wurde das leerstehende Hotel von einer AktivistInnengruppe besetzt. Seitdem wird der alltägliche Betrieb von solidarischern UnterstützerInnen gemeinsam mit den dort wohnenden Geflüchteten organisiert. Die 400 neuen Gäste, darunter 180 Kinder, kommen aus aller Welt: aus Syrien, Rojava, Irak, Pakistan, Iran und Afghanistan. Im City Plaza finden sie einen Platz, der ihnen Privatsphäre, ein Wohnen in Sicherheit und Würde ermöglicht. Wir leben zusammen, wir kämpfen zusammen, Solidarität wird gewinnen lautet ihr Motto.
Das Hotel demonstriert jeden Tag aufs Neue, dass es selbst in Zeiten von Krise und Armut möglich ist, Menschen willkommen zu heißen und würdige Lebensbedingungen für Alle zu schaffen. City Plaza ist ein politisches Beispiel: es ist ein Ort der Gleichheit und Solidarität, das gelebte Gegenteil zur Festung Europa und ihren schändlichen Grenzen. Das City Plaza Hotel ist ein Symbol der Hoffnung.
Auf den Veranstaltungen wollen wir zuhören und diskutieren:
• Was können wir lernen aus den alltäglichen Herausforderungen eines Rasthauses, das 400 Frauen, Männern und Kindern Zuflucht bietet, einer Notgemeinschaft in einem besetzten Gebäude?
• Wie entwickeln sich Selbstorganisierungsprozesse im Transit und darüber hinaus, und wie können diese aus den transnationalen Netzwerken der Solidarität unterstützt werden?
• Wie können Räume wie das City Plaza genutzt werden, um Verbindungen zu anderen sozialen Kämpfen für gleiche Rechte herzustellen? Und Zugang zu Wohnung, Bildung, Gesundheit fordern?
• Haben wir bereits begonnen, eine „Underground Railroad“ für Bewegungsfreiheit aufzubauen? Brauchen wir mehr Zufluchtsräume und perspektivisch Zufluchtsstädte („Sanctuary Cities“) entlang der Migrationsrouten als praktische Gegenpole zum rassistisch repressiven Mainstream?
Die Gäste:
Zwei bis drei FreundInnen aus Athen werden zur Tour kommen. Sie gehören zum Komitee des City Plaza, das seit sechs Monaten dort den Alltag organisiert. Es werden sich FreundInnen an den verschiedenen Veranstaltungen beteiligen, die zunächst Zuflucht im City Plaza und mittlerweile ihren Weg nach Deutschland oder in die Schweiz gefunden haben.
FreundInnen der Netzwerke Welcome to Europe und/oder Welcome2Stay, die das City Plaza bei Besuchen und von ausserhalb unterstützt haben, werden sie bei der Tour begleiten.

The Best Hotel of Europe on Tour in December 2016

After six months City Plaza in Athens supporters and people who had found shelter there share their experiences in a roundtrip through Germany and Switzerland

The Refugee Accommodation and Solidarity Space City Plaza is a hotel located in the heart of Athens. The abandoned hotel was occupied in April by an activist group. Together with the refugees many people in solidarity now manage the daily life in the hotel. The 400 new guests, among them 180 children, come from around the world: from Syria, Rojava,Iraq, Pakistan, Iran and Afghanistan. At City Plaza, refugees find a place that allows for privacy, in an atmosphere of security and dignity. "We live together, we fight together, solidarity will win" is their motto. The hotel demonstrates every day anew that even in a situation of crisis and poverty it is possible to welcome people with open arms and to create dignified living conditions for all. City Plaza gives a political example:
It is a place of equality and solidarity, the lived antithesis to Fortress Europe and its borders of shame. The City Plaza Hotel is a symbol of hope.

During the info-events we want to listen and discuss:
— What can be learned from the daily challenges of a „guesthouse" that gives safe shelter to 400 women, men and children, a "hardship-community" in a squat run by activists?
— How to start processes of self organising in transit-countries and beyond - and how to support them with transnational networks of solidarity?
— How to use spaces like City Plaza to link with other social struggles for equal rights? About access to housing, education, health care.
— Did we already start to build an "underground railroad" for freedom of movement? Do we need safe spaces or even sanctuary cities all along migration routes as practical opposite pole to the racist and repressive political mainstream?

The speakers:
Two or three friends from Athens will be on tour. They are part of the committee organizing City Plaza on an every day level since more then 6 months now.
Friends will join us in different cities, who had found shelter in City Plaza - finally they managed to find their way to Germany and Switzerland.
Friends from Welcome to Europe and Welcome to Stay will accompany them - in solidarity with City Plaza, they supported the structures with visits and from abroad.
